Pug PROS

Pugs Available for Adoption

We are pugs needing to be rescued because we have lost our homes! If you have love to give to any of us, please contact PROS. Thank you for looking at us and trying to help us find a home to call our own!

PROS especially needs to find homes for our older pugs. If you are looking for a mellow pal who wants to cuddle on the sofa rather than run laps around it, check them out!

Hi I’m Mindy and I’m almost 14 mos old and a fawn female pug. I’m a very active girl and need to be kept busy or I get into trouble. My former family told PROS that I like other dogs, cats and kids. I will be going to the vet for a checkup and spaying. I got a little out of control and need help with my potty training.
Hi I’m Neal and PROS thinks I might be a Puggle, I’m not sure what that is but they tell me it’s a pug/beagle mix. My ears look like a beagle and I have longer legs. I have an apricot coloring like some pugs. I think I’m about 1 ½ yrs old. My family left the country and left me with friends who took me to the shelter. I have been to the vet and had my shots updated and was neutered. My housetraining needs to be reinforced. I’m an active boy so I’ll need an active family with children over 5 years of age. I need to have some obedience training so I won’t chase cats or try to run away. I do like other dogs.

Hi I’m Carrie and I am a fawn 7 mo old female that came into Rescue with demodectic mange. As you can see how cute I am and I’ll be going to the vet soon for a checkup and when the vet’s says it’s OK I’ll get what they call spayed so I won’t have puppies. As you can see from the Rescue website there are just too many people turning in their pugs for various reasons.

Carrie is on MEDICAL HOLD.

Update 5/2/08: Carrie still has Demodectic Mange and is still under going treatment. She will be re-examined in 3 months.

Hi I’m Tanner and I’m a black 4 yr old male. I came into PROS very overweight so they’ve put me on what is called a diet. I have some breathing issues but they tell me that the vet will help me with that and it will also help when I lose weight. I get along with the other pugs in my foster home

Want to smile? Dylan is one happy guy - he is a 5 year old neutered fawn male and he is so happy to have gotten out of the shelter. Poor Dylan has not had it easy though - he was hit by a car and wound up in the shelter where PROS came to his rescue. Just when you would think life is looking up Dylan's jaw fractured during his dental due to a calloused weak area in the mandible. So, Dylan is on medical leave until sometime in May when he will finally be ready for a new home. Dylan loves everyone - humans and dogs alike

Update: 4/25/08 Dylan is Pending Adoption.

Becky was turned in to PROS by a military family who was moving and couldn't keep her. She is a 9 or 10 year old sweetheart who loves to sit by your side and chew on nylabones. She is a bit heavy right now so she is on a diet. She has a collapsing trachea (which will benefit from weight loss) which seems better already and she also has chronic ear infections and will require steroid drops for the rest of her life. Becky is so soft and fluffy and is a beautiful apricot color. She is great with children and gets along fine with other dogs.

Margie is a 9 yr old spayed fawn female who came into Rescue with Morrie. The owners got a divorce and they were left with friends and never claimed. The people who surrendered them just didn’t have the time to take care of them. Margie is a little overweight which is being worked on in her foster home.
Morrie is a 7 yr old neutered male pug who came into Rescue with Margie. They are a bonded pair and hopefully can be adopted together. Morrie needs his housetraining reinforced. Both know how to use a doggie door. Morrie too is a little overweight and will be slim and trim soon.
Millie is a 3 year old black spayed female who was left outside by her owner. Millie is so very sweet but a bit uncertain in some situations because she's never been in a house. She is now coming out of her shell, gaining confidence and is becoming a little diva in her foster home. Millie will need help with house breaking. She gets along well with other dogs and just loves people and is very affectionate. Millie does have some weakness in her rear legs and needs a home with no stairs.

Special Needs:

Dawn is an older fawn female who came into Rescue a very sick pug with a life threatening illness that required emergency lifesaving surgery for pyometria (uterine infection). It was necessary for the Surgeon to perform a hysterectomy. Following surgery she experienced heart problems that are still ongoing and might require a cardiology consultation. The wonderful vets at Bishop Ranch did surgery and Dawn spent two nights and days in the hospital and was able to come home on the evening of 2-13. PROS could use your donations to help pay for the vet bills she has incurred so far and those that are expected in the near future. So far the medical bills are approximately $4,000.00 and will continue to grow.

Update 3/5/08: Dawn will not need to see a cardiologist, at this time, since her heart medication has stabilized her heart rhythm

Update 3/9/08: Dawn's heart condition has responded well to Theophylline (heart medication). She will need to takeTheophylline three times a day for the rest of her life.

Dawn sends a lot of Pug Hugs and Kisses to "The Balm to the Rescue" company for making a donation to help pay for her surgery. Thank you Marissa.

Pansy is an older fawn female pug who was neglected. She will need to be spayed, have palate surgery and have either a hernia repaired or tumor removed. She is on the thin side but is still a happy girl. She does know how to sit on command. PROS is seeing more and more older neglected pugs coming into Rescue. Please consider adopting an older pug.
Ozzy is a loving 1 year old active fawn male pug. If you want a player and a snuggler, he’s your man. He loves to crawl in your lap and snuggle but is also up for a good game of wrestling. If you really wanted a big dog in a little dog"s body He just the right choice, he’s your guy.

The following 4 pugs all came into Rescue not in the best condition. All have ear infections and need to be spayed and neutered. Some have other health issues as well.

Pug hugs and kisses to Linda Goldman, Joanne Clark, Kathy Burkland, John and Colleen Daley, Robert Cashon, Carrie Neargarder, Nadia Pelegouzova, Linda Jimenez, Darcy and Dave Johnson, J. Michael Berryhill, Joan Hill, Michael Virdure, Anne Ryan, Lourdes Cristobal-Houts and Terry Wong-Cook. Thank you for your donations.

Stacy is a 5-6 yr old fawn female who came into Rescue with 3 other pugs who were rescued from a shelter. Stacy is only 9 lbs. She needs to be spayed and have a tumor removed. Eventually she will also have surgery to correct her luxating patellas.

Update 2/16/08: Stacy has been spayed, had the tumor removed and had her elongated palated trimmed. Once Stacy has fully recovered she will have her luxating patellas repaired.

Stacy sends pug hugs and kisses to Elaine LaMastra and Terry Wong-Cook for their donation they made to her and Hope. Terry Wong-Cook donation was in the memory of Violet. Thank you Elaine and Terry.

Auntie Mae is and older female pug, maybe 10-12 yr old who was not well taken care of. She is housetrained and is delightful to be around. She gets along with other pugs. She barks only when it’s feeding time. If you are looking for an older four legged friend Auntie Mae is for you.

Brutus is a 6 yr old neutered fawn male pug whose owners couldn't take care of Brutus any longer. He loves chasing balls and playing. He likes riding in cars, friendly with strangers, comes when called. Brutus does have a nose fold infection which will be treated. He's good with other dogs and stayed home for 8 hours a day alone, no problems. He's a great little guy, very happy and sweet, wants to be petted and loved.

Buster is approximately 10 years old but try telling him that. He's a black male neutered pug who is very obese and on a very strict diet. He's healthy, loves to play with stuffed toys and drop them in his water bowl. He is very much a snuggle Pug but is active, loves walks, other dogs, negotiates stairs with no problems and he's looking for a new home.

Reno is an 8 yr. old male neutered fawn Pug. Sadly surrendered by his family who could no longer care for him. He is gentle and loving, with a little bit of zest. He loves other dogs and cats. He is very good with children. He knows how to use a doggie door and is housebroken. He loves his stuffed animals, but he will also share them with the other dogs. He loves to go on walks, he gets a little anxious riding in the car-but is adjusting very well to the rides. Reno has dry eye and requires ointment daily. He is extremely smart and will do anything you ask- sit, stay, lay, come to bed, etc. Reno would be wonderful with any family, and will make a wonderful companion

Miss Daisy is a wonderful 12 year old senior Pug and she has typical senior Pug problems. She has stiff rear legs from arthritis and eats only wet food. Miss Daisy does like to follow you and yep, she's a leg licker. Miss Daisy might not have many years left but she would love to have someone make them good ones. PROS is willing to pay for her medications if someone would like to love an older girl.

Special Needs:

Mollie is an 8 to 9 yr old fawn spayed female who has been diagnosed with Diabetes and she needs insulin twice a day. Her eyesight isn't really great but she can still see her way around and her eye medications really help. Mollie would love a new home and PROS is willing to pay for her medications if someone would like to provide her with a home and love.

Pug Hugs and Kisses to Mollie's Sponsers:

Doranna and Steve Grech are sponsoring Mollie. Thank you Doranna and Steve.

Diva is an 8 - 10 year old, sweet, fun, lovable little dog who would work well in a household with no other dogs or with one other mildly playful dog for companionship. She loves people but because she is afraid of sudden movements and loud noises she would do better in a home with no children. She is on a special diet and needs someone who is conscientious about monitoring for any gastrinomical upset due to chronic pancreatis. Diva knows basic commands and loves to please. Diva is possessive of her food and needs to be fed away from other pets and she can be toy possessive though is improving. She gets along with and plays with other dogs if allowed to get to know them under close supervision at first. Due to a broken pelvis that healed crooked, Diva needs a lot of exercise to keep her limber. She loves to roll and run in the grass and is quite fast on her feet. She tends to lose her balance and hold her head to the side at times due to a possible neurological problem but this condition has not been problematic. Diva is partially housebroken and will use a doggy door most of the time. Confining her to a room or two in the beginning and working with her under close scrutiny may be all she needs to correct this. Diva would thrive better with a home that has someone there most of the time as she "wails" when she's alone. She's a great little dog that makes you laugh and is very entertaining.
Nicholas, aka Nicky is a 5 year old neutered fawn male. He's had a rough life and his owner died and he was not taken care of. Nicky has an immune deficiency disorder that attacks his gums so eating became very difficult for him. PROS is hoping that with good care and love that Nicky will become healthy again. He was very thin but has gained 1 1/2 pounds already and we hope that he's on his way to recovery. Nicky will have to continue taking a medicine called Flagyl which is very inexpensive and will help control his immune disorder. He's a very special boy.

If you have a squeaky plush toy problem, Duke's your man. He is a sweet 9 year old male who was surrendered to PROS because the family's toddler was too rough with him. He is a little timid at first but warms up after a few days. He loves other pugs and sitting on your lap to cuddle (and hunting the squeaky plush toys, of course). He would do best in a home with no children and is on special diet for urinary crystals.

Update: 10/27/07:

Duke is very timid and does not like being carried. He will come to you, but does not like being approached. Duke is deaf; however, he has adjusted well to his surround and appears to have no problem with other pug in the house. He has an upcoming birthday on Nov. 1, 2007 and will be 10 years old.

Mac is a 10 yr old fawn male pug who was a stray and ended up in a shelter. He has been to the vet to be neutered and had most of his teeth removed. This older gentleman is looking for his retirement home. He gets along with the other pugs in his foster home.

Pug Hugs and Kisses to Mac's Sponsers:

Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin (They live on the Isle of Man ) are sponsoring Mac. Thank you Delmar and Sally.

Luke is a neutered fawn male Pug 7 to 8 years old. He's delightful and a very happy guy who wound up in the shelter after being found as a stray. The pads on his feet showed so much wear that we are sure he was out on his own for quite awhile and he was also very thin. Luke also has very poor eyesight but can see well enough to get around and he's a very active pug. Luke loves being with people and is not very fond of other dogs who will steal his attention so he would prefer to be the only dog. Luke also has some mild separation anxiety but he's undergoing some behavioral modification for this and has really improved but he can not be left alone for long periods of time.

Pug Hugs and Kisses to Luke's Sponsers:

Doranna and Steve Grech are sponsoring Luke. Thank you Doranna and Steve.
