Happy Endings - Vito

We got a call from Vicki, a member of PROS who works at a pet clinic. She said they had a client who had a little dwarf Pug with a serious problem and he could not hold down food. The pug was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and the people did not want to do the surgery, but at the same time couldn't stand the fact that he threw up 20 times a day and recently was throwing up blood. All the while, Vicki kept trying to get them to call PROS so that we could take proper care of him. FINALLY, we received THE CALL! Mary and Tony Bova picked the little pug up and brought him to Nadine McAfee's home, and then Nadine arranged a foster situation with Ed and Cecilia Hartley. Junior's situation was awful and the poor little guy was sweet as can be, but he could not hold down food which is why he was so thin and his growth had been stunted. Nadine called Veterinary Surgical Associates and they were kind enough to offer the services of one of their surgical interns to perform the surgery at a greatly discounted rate (original estimate was about $3,000.00) The Hartley's drove Junior to San Mateo where he had the surgery and the Dunker's fostered and cared for him during his recovery, which was incredible. He improved by leaps and bounds, and with patience, attention to medications, numerous feeding times, proper exercise and a whole lot of TLC, Junior was soon ready to be adopted. As soon as Junior's picture was on the website, Maria and Scott Cyphers saw him and fell in love, and their adoption of Junior took place shortly thereafter. This little Pug touched many lives, at least 8 PROS volunteers and the wonderful couple that adopted Junior... who by the way is now called Vito. And speaking of Vito... here is a photo of him with his new dad, Scott.
