Hospice Care Pugs

These are our Hospice Pugs. They have a special place in permanent foster homes with some of our wonderful members and volunteers. PROS will continue to support them for as long as they live. If you would like to sponsor one of them, you may do so using the buttons below their description via the PayPal monthly payment plan. Single one-time donations are always welcome too, by making a donation and specifying the pug you wish to donate to in the comments field. Thank you to all our sponsors and donors!

Special Needs:

Lexi is a 12 yr old fawn female who has limited vision and hearing. Her owner died and the relatives didn’t want her so she was surrendered to a local shelter. PROS took her from the shelter so she could have a better life for the rest of her years. Lexi is very overweight and has some stiffness from arthritis. She's a happy girl who wags her little tail and gives kisses anytime she gets love. She's very confused right now but is exploring her new surroundings and memorizing her way around.

Lexi sends hugs and kisses to Devney Smith for sponsoring her.

Special Needs:

Hope is also a 5-6 yr old fawn 9 lb. female who came from the shelter with 3 other pugs. Hope has bad luxating patellas with her knees locked in place and cannot be repaired. She will be spayed soon.

Bugsy has been a PROS Pug since August 2006.

Sophia is a 14 year old fawn female whose original owner moved out of the country. She has chronic demodectic mange and is almost blind. Sophia also has a mast cell on her side which was removed when she had a dental cleaning done. Due to Sophia's age and ongoing medical issues she will stay with her foster home in Hospice care. Sophia has been a PROS Pug since October 2007.

Greg Mattson, Tiffanie Brown and Kris Kroner are sponsoring Sophia.

Cami is a 2 year old fawn female pug that was never claimed from the shelter and was facing euthanasia. She has scoliosis and that creates physical limitations, she tilts her head a little bit and sometimes walks to the left. She is a very loving dog despite her disabilities and is very healthy otherwise. Cami loves to give pug kisses and she loves her human and doggy companions. Cami will receive acupuncture treatments as needed when she gets older as she is expected to have some mobility problems in the future as she ages. Cami has been a PROS pug since September of 2006.

Pug hugs and kisses to Linda & David Baca, Michelle Trudelle and Joanne Clark for helping sponsor Cami.

Cody is a 7 to 8 year old fawn male pug who was having cluster seizures and left unclaimed as a stray in the shelter. Cody was diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy. He's on a medication regime that is not expensive but he will need to be on them for his lifetime. Cody has break through seizures and requires some medication adjustment. Due to his seizures and also that he has been in foster care for over a year with no interest in adopting him he is staying in his foster home the rest of his life. Cody is really a wonderful, loving, mellow boy who just loves people; face rubs and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Cody has been a PROS pug since March 2006.

Greg Mattson is sponsoring Cody.

Hi, this is Big Ben's foster mom and Ben wants me to let you all know how he's doing. I'm writing for Big Ben because even though he's a big happy boy, Ben now has Canine Cognitive Dysfunction or dementia and arthritis so that it is very difficult for him to get up from his memory foam bed now. I call Ben my big old booby and he still a big boy but since he's been on thyroid medication his fur stopped falling out and he has such a wonderful soft and thick coat. When I first got Ben his coat felt like a wire brush but now it's as soft as silk. Ben is probably close to 15 years old and as long as he's happy and eating he'll always have a home. He was left in the animal shelter and his owner deserted him - there is no way he'll ever be dumped again and PROS will always take care of him - I supply the love and the food, his sponsors help and PROS takes care of the rest. Big Ben has been a PROS Pug since May 2006

Doranna Grech, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Big Ben.

Merlin is a very sweet boy around 14 years old. Merlin has arthritis so it's hard to move around but he's on medication and supplements to help keep him from having pain. Merlin has developed a medical condition known as canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (CDS) that causes disorientation, confusion, memory loss and personality changes that are very similar to Alzheimer's disease in humans. Canine Cognitive Dysfunction is sometimes referred to as "old dog syndrome", "brain aging", "doggie dementia" or "senility". He is very comfortable in his foster home and well loved there. Merlin has been a PROS Pug since July 2006.

Pamela Miller, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Merlin.

Do you like wrinkles? Well, Zipper has wrinkles a plenty. He's an 8 year old fawn neutered male who loves other dogs and people also. He's always happy and he dances. Yes, he does a little 2 step for you when he's really going. Zipper does have some neurological problems he was born with, he looses his balance at times but he will still just keep going. Now poor Zipper has been diagnosed with a collapsing larynx so he'll be staying on as PROS Pug with all the care and love we can give. His condition is inoperable and any heat or stress can cause his larynx to swell cutting off his air supply. His foster parents just adore Zipper and Zipper is fast friends with his piggy brother. Please help us keep Zipper happy by donating or becoming a sponsor for this sweet boy. Zipper has been Hospice Pug since January 2006

Michael B Barrett, Greg Mattson, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Zipper. n.

Scruffy is a 10-12 year old fawn male Pug. He came to us as an unclaimed stray from the shelter and he was in bad shape. He had a skin condition, ticks and was extremely thin. Scruffy was so badly cared for that he now has chronic demodectic mange which just will not go away. In order to keep his skin under control Scruffy will be staying on as a PROS pug so we can monitor and keep him comfortable and continue medical treatment as needed. He's happy and well loved in his foster home but would love to have a sponsor to help with his ongoing medical care. Scruffy has been Hospice Pugs since August 2005

Angela Cordes, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Scuffy.

Dixie is one of the saddest Pugs we've had for a long time. She was a stray in a shelter that no one claimed and her health suffered greatly. Her foster home has nursed her through cancerous mammary tumors, ear infections and pneumonia and we thought Dixie was finally healthy when she was diagnosed with Cushing's disease and mast cell tumors. Dixie now receives Hospice care from her adoring foster family.

Nazzi Shisedo, Anne Wilson, Gina Bosch, Linda Parena, Micki and Joey (the Pug) Cianciosi, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Dixie.

Little Daisy is a 10 year old fawn female with SARDS. SARDS is a disease that strikes a dog almost instantly blind and causes confusion and disorientation. It is also the reason she was most probably dumped by her owners in a shelter but PROS rescued her. Her blindness is permanent, there is no cure and there is not a lot known about SARDS. Jan 2007 - Daisy is very happy in her foster home and is being fed Honest Kitchen Force which has no grains - it's really helped her and decreases her confusion. She loves sunbathing in the yard and her foster mom has to keep a close eye on her so she doesn't overdue it, she also loves belly rubs but her confusion is increasing. It is estimated that she's been blind since April of 2005. PROS would appreciate any donations to help with Daisy's care as she is on medication to help control some of her disease. Daisy has been with PROS since June of 2005. Michelle and Jeremy Trudelle,

Melanie Cary, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsors for Little Daisy.

Sassy is a 12 year old female. She is in very good health but does have arthritis in her back, she requires Glucosamine which has resolved the stool incontinence she came to us with. Sassy just loves everyone and all the other dogs in her foster family. She even loves children. Sassy is so sweet and easy going, loves walks even though her eyesight isn't great given her age and just wants a lap to lie in. Sassy will be staying with her foster family and is very happy there. Sassy has been with PROS since January of 2005. Victoria Ramos,

Greg Mattson, Paige Pullen, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are now sponsoring Sassy.

Susie is a petite, spayed, 10-12 year, light-as-a-feather female. This little girl spins around & around for her meals. Then retires quietly to groom her sweetly scented foxy stole. She loves a good early morning routine. The sun, latte foam, a newspaper... Yes, she is paper-trained! and will also follow her companion dogs outside. After an initial cruise around the perimeters you would never guess her eyesight is poor. Susie will find you, curl in your lap, and melt into your heart; there is no escape. She will have you singing every Susie song you know.

Jan 2008 - Susie is on a special diet for her urinary health but other than occasional bladder infections is still doing well. Susie has been with PROS since November of 2004.

Melanie Cary, Karen Keaton, Kerri Lohr, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Susie.

Senior:

Elsie is a small 15 year old fawn female. Elsie had a back injury at one time and is now stool incontinent- she just doesn't know she's going and her back legs are just a little weak. She gets along well with other dogs and children as long as they respect the fact that she can't move very fast.

Jan 2008- Elsie was diagnosed with Cushing's disease in March of 2007 and started some very expensive medication to help alleviate her symptoms and keep her comfortable. She has also had increasing bladder infections and needs a special diet. Elsie is still a very happy delightful little Pug with a very strong will to live and PROS wants to keep her that way. Elsie just celebrated her 15th birthday and won "Oldest Pug" at the Pugtacular in December of 2007. PROS would appreciate any help you can give to allow us to continue to give her a full and happy life. Elsie has been with PROS since December of 2004.

Leslie Devine, Diane Horowitz, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin are sponsoring Elsie.

Bubbles was rescued from a shelter and had been very neglected. She had allergic dermatitis, ear infections, severe dry eye and a bladder infection, and then developed mammary tumors which were removed but will probably reoccur. Bubbles is now about 12 years old and has other wise stayed healthy. PROS has decided that Bubbles will be best kept in Hospice so we can keep a close eye on her medical condition. Jan 2008- Bubbles is still clear of mammary tumors - she's such a character and loves running her pug buddies around the house to keep them in line. Bubbles has dry eye that requires the use of Optimune to help her vision. Bubbles has been with PROS since October 2004.

Bubbles is being sponsored by Tiffanie Brown and Kris Kroner of K9 Country Club in Petaluma and Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin. Thank you!

Daisy is a 13-14 year old fawn female we got as a stray from the shelter. Daisy has a collapsing trachea which is being controlled by medication. She is sweet, gets along well with other dogs but does like being the top female and hops right up onto the bed to go to sleep at night. Jan 2008- Daisy has been having ongoing problems with ear infections we are constantly working with but she's still doing well and is just as feisty as ever. Daisy has developed some urinary incontinence and a bit of dementia but is still doing well. Daisy has been a hospice pug with PROS since March 2004.

Thank you to Daisy's wonderful sponsors, Thair and Sheila Warmack and Delmar Orell and Miss Sally Bobbin.

Tasha is a 12 year old fawn female. She has an old back injury which has made her stool incontinent and she drags her back legs but frequent acupuncture treatments have kept her mobile and healthy. She takes herbs and D-Mannose powder which keeps her free from bladder infections. She also has chronic ear problems requiring medication and uses Cyclosporine for dry eye. Dr Kirstin Williams at Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center has been doing acupuncture for Tasha's back problems on an ongoing basis and it has worked wonders keeping her pain free and mobile without drugs. Jan 2008 - Tasha is still doing well and has not had any back spasms now for over 8 months. Tasha is a healthy happy little pug and other than some mobility weakness leads a full and happy life in her foster home. Tasha has been a hospice pug with PROS since February 2004.

Pug kisses and thanks to Katherine and Rocky, Margaret Reed, Lisa Sheeran and Delmar Orell and Miss Sally Bobbin for sponsoring Tasha!
