Gracie2013.JPGGracie the beloved PROS foster pug passed away on April 18, 2013.

Diva_July_2012.jpgJust want to let you know that we had to have Diva put down today. We had an emergency incident with her in August where she was in the hospital for 3 days due to respiratory problems. Thankfully the doctor was able to buy us 8 more months with her by stabilizing her and prescribing the right meds. She had cardio hypertension and was doing fine until today when she was coughing and unable to take in enough oxygen. Because this time was worse than last and even last time the doctor wasn't sure he could stabilize her, we had to say goodbye to her.
Needless to say our hearts are broken right now. How that little one will be missed but we feel so blessed and grateful to have had her all these years. She had the most amazing spirit and was such a little survivor having gone thru so much in her early years. She was such a joy and a very, very loved little pet.

Peanutmemorial.JPGOn January 11, 2013 we lost our beloved Peanut. Adopted at 7 years old, he was one of our first foster pugs from PROS and one of the sweetest dogs ever. The day my husband picked him up I thought, this guy is soooo cute, but what a terrible name. He came as Tyke, but it just did not fit him. His body was shaped like a peanut so I named him Peanut. Little did we know that he was also going to be impossible to potty train. He loved to mark, everything, making his name that much more appropriate. So we got him a bright red belly band and we never looked back. Dr. Kress, our acupuncture vet, used to call it his Speedo. It made him look even more cute. As Peanut got older he retained all his energy. He was probably 13 before he stopped chasing the cats. Peanut was 14 ½ when we finally said goodbye. We never knew much about Peanut's background before he came to us, I can only hope we made him happy for the 7 short years he was with us. He will be missed.

Luke_0407.jpgLuke crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on 12/13/12. He is especially missed by his foster family and PROS. Thank you to all of Luke's sponsors over the years.

Emily_m.jpg Emily crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on April 18, 2012 at 16 yr old. She is missed by PROS mom, Patty Fullerton. Patty adopted Emily when she was age 9.

It with deep sorrow I report that George (formerly Clyde) passed away this morning. He fought a great battle with cancer and was in Bonnie's lap hugging her when he took his last breath. He was comfortable and pain free until the end; in fact he and Gracie had just had nice warm baths yesterday.

I can't express how much joy, comfort and love George brought to our entire family (we'll ignore his barking at the gardeners every Friday) Bonnie, Brandon and I were hard hit by his passing (still very tearful) - although we knew it was inevitable. Gracie is still here with us and stayed close with George the last few days. Not sure how she will be as she finds he is gone forever, but she'll continue to get all of our love.

BuddyWheezi.jpgBuddy crossed the Rainbow Bridge in Dec. 2012. He is missed by his mom Marissa Shipman and all the employees at the Balm.

Angelina_2011.JPG Angelina crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Wed. Nov. 14.

Dear PROS,
It is with a very sad heart that I write to tell you that our little guy Squish (formerly known as Dusty) passed over the rainbow bridge on May 18, 2012.
He had been struggling over the past few years with arthritis and the past few months with a back problem and breathing problems. He had gone deaf before I adopted him and lost site in his left eye about a month ago. When he started to lose his appetite we knew something was seriously wrong. Upon seeing the vet this past Saturday scans showed an enlarged heart, misplaced colon, and a large cyst on one of his kidneys. We loved him too much to have him suffer any more than he had to so we had to let him go. He was somewhere around 15 the vets told us. I will miss his snuggles the most.
He will be very much missed, but will remain a huge part of our lives in the short time we had him. Thank you to the entire PROS team for helping us find each other.
Kind regards and heavy hearts,
Christina and Stefan

Missy2012.jpegJust writing to tell you that Missy, who we adopted in 2006 has passed over 5-14-12. She was true snuggle-pug. She required quite a bit of specialized care the older she got but she gave us so much in return. Thank you so much for putting us together. My husband is making her a headstone in the shape of a big pink bow.

rodneydaisy.jpegRodney and Daisy
Seven and half years ago we welcomed our first Pug rescue into our family, Rodney, who my husband always said gave the meaning to the word "rescue dog". For all that knew him, they know what this means. He wasn't what you would call a low maintenance dog, but he was the smartest, most loyal , loving friend and companion a person could ever hope for. I vividly remember the day he pranced up my front steps with his dear foster mom, Linda Parena. He came through the front door and immediately decided that I was going to be his new best friend, and that was that! He became my new best friend too. I am convinced we knew each other in a past life. :)
A few months later were hooked on Pugs, so decided to help out another deserving Pug .......this is when sweet 8 year old Dolly/Daisy was delivered to us by the Grovers. Daisy was an absolute angel from the start that definitely deserved every ounce of love she received in this household by family and friends (which was a lot) . Daisy is what one could call low maintenance dog. These two were quite the fixtures in the Burkland home, but sadly I have to report that we lost them both of them within the last week and half. I know, for all of us Pug lovers it is hard to imagine how one's heart can take this loss, but these two lived the lives of a king and a queen, so we are trying to find peace in that.
Rodney developed diabetes about 2 months ago and got cataract overnight and went totally blind. Surgery for him was out of the question based on the fact that even a trip to the vet was a extremely traumatic experience. Surgery and a hospital stay would have been a nightmare for all involved. Dear Daisy went out with peace and dignity. Her breathing became very labored on Sunday. We rushed her to Bishop Ranch where they did all they could do for her but determined on Monday morning that her trachea was closing up, so it was time to say goodbye.
We want to thank your wonderful organization for making it possible for us to have these wonderful friends these past 7 1/2 years. There are no words to express the love, joy and companionship that they brought to our family. They both have big places in our hearts.

Love,
The Burkland Family

It is with much sadness that we report that Beethoven crossed over the Rainbow Bridge due to liver failure on April 26th, 2012

Jake2012.jpg
The best efforts of a wonderful team of veterinarians were unable to cure Jake (formerly known as Linus), who passed away on March 5, 2012.

We adopted Jake as a five-month-old pup, with the hope that he would be a constant friend and companion for our daughters throughout their childhoods. However, in his five short years with us, he became much more than that. He was the star of our family, popular with neighbors, classmates, in- laws, outlaws, and everyone he met. We are shaken by his loss, but held steady by the memories of the joy he brought us. We miss his presence. We miss his unconditional love.

Our thanks to PROS for giving us the opportunity to share our lives and our home with dear, sweet Jake.

My darling Frankie died in June 2011 after several days of respiratory difficulties. I'm grateful that he slipped away on his own and that I was with him. He was my third senior PROS adoption and I was crazy about him. He was a sweet, affectionate old boy who was always with me. His empty bed still gives me a pang. Anne Wilson

Pansy_0108B.jpg
Pansy passed on 2/24/2012. She had been a PROS pug since January 2008.

Tootsie.jpg
Tootsie was surrendered to a shelter at the age of 15 yrs. PROS stepped in and placed her in a foster home. She was taken to a vet due to a health issue. We found out that she was one very sick girl unfortunately she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was given love and cuddling in a home rather then the shelter for her last few days.

jack_2012.JPG
Jack passed away Friday December 23, 2011. we adopted him from PROS when he was a pup, around 9 months old. He was nearly 11 when he passed. Much too young. He was always full of life, even while his health was failing. He will always have a place of honor in this house.

pebbles_2011.JPG
I am writing this with many tears falling. Our sweet senior pug "Pebbles" crossed over rainbow bridge on December 1st. We adopted her when she was 12yrs. old and she was with us 5 years. She was a tough old gal and took command of the kitchen at feeding time.

Good Bye Pebbles. Give Gena a pug kiss when you see her.

Linda and Jeff Bodwin

Duke_2011b.jpg
Because we loved him so much, we had to let him go. Our little man Duke crossed the rainbow bridge today.

He was 14 years old, deaf, blind, losing his sense of smell and taste. He stopped eating except for a few bites of jerky treats, watermelon, kettlecorn and Thanksgiving yams. Our handsome lad was so precious to us and such a good boy. I, especially, will miss his warm body cuddling next to mine at nights and the sweet little kisses he gave me checking to make sure I am still there.

Duke, we will never forget you and will love you forever.
Sadly,
Kathy Bok and Bob Pickel

Sunny_2011.jpg
One month ago we lost Sunny, our fifth rescue pug at 8 years of age. She was only with us 2 years but it felt like we had her her whole life. She got sick with SARDS and went blind about a year ago, she never got used to it and it cut her life short. She was very sweet and much loved by us and her rescue brother, Trevor, and everyone who met her. She'll be forever missed. Dan, Gary, and Trevor

Boston.jpg
We have a very sad story to share with you; it is a short story of a little pug named Boston. Boston was a 2 - 3 year old, fawn male pug. He was surrendered to the shelter because he had some behaviour problems that his owner couldn't deal with. We were asked to take him in and quickly made arrangements. His foster home was ready and we even had a neuter appointment scheduled for him at the vet. Unfortunately, no one at the shelter realized how poor Boston's health was. Our volunteer was 10 minutes from the shelter when we were notified that Boston passed away. Lab results indicate he had Parvo. We regret that we did not have the opportunity to change Boston's life sooner. He will always be a PROS pug in our books. RIP Boston.

Coco_2011-RB.jpg
It is with heavy heart that I wish to inform you that Coco, the male fawn that I adopted from your organization in Feb. of 1995, passed away last week. I guess he was around 12-13 yrs.old. He had slowed down a lot because of catarract on both eyes and the vet said that he was loosing sensation in his back leg. I took him to the vet that morning and after some tests and x-rays the vet told me that he had and infection and gave him a shot and some antibiotics to take at home. That night he died in his sleep. I guess the stress wore him out. If you have a young male available for adoption, please let me know. Robert De Ocampo

Merry_Rainbow Bridge_2011.jpg
Mimi is the name I gave to hospice pug "Merry." I miss her so much. She was my little buddy and her passing was a complete shock. I'm still looking for her on my bed and in the house, still thinking of her food bowl and where is my little wiggly sweetheart...Kris Kroner Merry came to PROS as a 7 yr. old tiny fawn female pug. She was found as a stray and taken to a shelter, where she was rescued by PROS. She was in horrible shape: it appears whoever had her used me as a breeding machine. She must have been kept in a cage, because she didn't like being put once she had a tast of her new found freedom. She could use a doggy door and was house trained. Merry had a severe left eye injury when she was found and the vet tried but could not save her eye. Merry also had an ulceration on her right eye requiring medicine. Through generous donations, Merry was able to have dental work and palate surgery, which greatly increased her quality of life. Merry was also grateful to receive spay surgery. Merry was a PROS retirement pug since March 2009 and she was deeply loved by her foster family.

Peg_2011-RB.jpg
It is with a very heavy heart that I write this note. On June 4th of this year we helped out beloved Peg cross the rainbow bridge. Her health was far from good and we wanted to keep her from suffering. We LOVED her soooooo much and a piece of my heart is missing but we know she is up and running again with her fellow Pug friends. Thank you so much for what you do to help the needy Pugs. She was our first attempt at fostering and I know we failed miseriably (I think I called you the second day we had her to see about adopting her) She brought so many smiles to our faces and I truly miss hearing her grunt her way down the hall to come lay by my side. One of her many beds still holds her place next to my desk as that was her place, at my side. She will forever be in our hearts and we will be forever grateful that you gave us the chance to be loved by her. Sincerely, Laurie and Adam Cowhig Buford T. Justice, Bambi, Pearly, Miss Lacy Pug and Our Dearest Peg who has crossed the Rainbow

bubbles2010_02.jpg
Bubbles crossed the bridge July 23rd, 2011 and was 16 or 17 years old. She had a long life while she was with PROS. She is missed by all of us, especially her foster family.

Rocky - obit-2011.jpg
My husband and I made the hard decision to send our second pug, Rocky, over the Rainbow Bridge today (June 11, 2011). She had arthritis and fused vertebra and had trouble moving around and getting up. Our hearts would break when she struggled to get to her feet, and we knew her time had come. It was a hard decision and she fought until the end. We were with her and held her until she left us. I will always remember how she would wait for me at the top of the steps or sit by the front door waiting for my return, how she would always nap by my feet, and how she had so much heart in that little body of hers. It's like her body gave out before her heart did. My husband will remember how she would howl for me when I wasn't around and how she was like a grizzly bear hiding inside of a pug's body. Our beautiful Rocky just had so much character, and she will truly be missed. We feel better knowing that, just like our other pug, Buster Sue, Rocky left the world knowing that we loved her and that she will no longer be in any discomfort. Again, we would like to thank Pug PROS for rescuing her, and Molly at Pooches' Playtime for fostering her before she came to her retirement home with us. We will always remember our pretty girl! We love you, Rocky!! --Debbie and Cameron (and Bernie, her pug companion)

Chubby_2011-RB.jpg
I wanted to let you know that we'll be sending in a donation to PROS soon in memory of our oldest pug Chubby, whom we had to put to sleep recently. She was 13 1/2 and had a huge tumor that was bleeding internally. We didn't even know she had it as there were no symptoms until she went into shock from massive blood loss. It has just broken my heart. She was our very first pug and my soul-mate. Thank goodness I have my other six to take care of or I would just be crying all day long. I know Chubby is flying around on angel wings over the Rainbow Bridge...probably looks like a happy little peanut zipping through the clouds! I'm attaching a picture of Chubby taken on her last weekend. Next to her is Taffy, with our other girl Ame-chan behind her. Taffy is thriving...she's turning into a real cuddler and getting ever more beautiful as she matures. She'll be 3 this October. Take care and lots of love from all of us, Rebecca, Doug, Fuzzy, Ame-chan, Taffy, Buddy, Dr. John and Dinky

Pola_RB_2011.jpg
My sweet little Pola, friend and companion, crossed the Rainbow Bridge Friday, June 24, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Pola was a teacher who arrived in the guise of a pug! This senior little girl was a wise and gentle soul who possessed a seemingly endless supply of spirit and spunk. She did so wonderfully well during these past 10 months of treatments to battle her chronic kidney disease, but her decline began to set in just a few weeks ago. Though I was blessed with Pola for just under two years, having adopted her on what I called lucky-7-11(09), I began to realize as the months rolled by that she was teaching me things I needed to learn -- about the determination of spirit, the qualities of compassion and patience (when we took our little walks daily, we were on 'Pola time'), learning to live the concept of being in the now, in the moment . . . Pola always stopped to smell the roses. This is my favorite photo of Pola -- taken the day I picked her up at her foster home -- that single moment illuminated the very essence of Pola's spirit -- a sweet little pug with the heart of a lion. Farewell, Little Friend! We will miss you . . . until we meet again . . . Love Always, Mommy & Magick

Gus_2011_Memorial.jpg
Today we said goodbye to our beloved, Gus, who was diagnosed with untreatable cancer that had spread. He was one month shy of 14. He had stopped eating, and told us it was time to let him go. He was our first of 4 rescue pugs from PugPROS and we had been his "forever home" for 9 years. We have been blessed to have had him in our family and will miss him sorely. Carol Sue

Velvet_2C.jpg
Today, May 31, 2011, a beloved member of our family, Velvet, crossed over the rainbow bridge. She was 14 years old and was a member of our family for 7 years. She was a wonderful loving companion and gave kisses freely to her mom and dad. She was the leader of our pug pack and kept her sisters and brothers in line. She was the hall monitor. It was tearful goodbye as she showed her love to the very last minutes of her life. She is now in God's home and free from pain and with her sisters and brothers who preceded her. Velvet, we will love you forever. Mom (Jan) and Dad (John)

BusterSue.jpg
My husband and I decided that it was time for our pug, Buster Sue, to go over the rainbow bridge today (May 28, 2011). We affectionately called her Bear Bear or Baroness. Bear Bear really began to struggle with her collapsed trachea and her spreading tumors, and we knew it was time; she just looked tired. Though it was extremely emotional for us, we were with her right up until the end. We wanted her to know that we loved her and cared about her. I will always remember how she was my yoga buddy, how she loved her stroller rides, and how she would just look up at me with those big pug eyes and welcome me home. She had a very independent personality which was amazing, but at times tested my patience. My husband will remember how she always took her time to find just the right spot to go the bathroom even if it meant staying outside with her for an extra few minutes...even in the rain, and how she was very timid and apprehensive at first and didn't want him to rub her belly. She grew to love being held like a baby and given belly rubs. We both are so happy to have given Bear Bear a relaxing and fun retirement home.

We would like to thank Pug PROS for rescuing her, and Molly at Pooches' Playtime for fostering her before she came to her forever home with us. She will always be loved and missed. We love you Bear!!

--Debbie and Cameron (and Rocky and Bernie, her pug companions)

Haileypic.jpg
PROS took Hailey in on 4/25 from a lady who was moving and didn't want her. This little 7 month old little girl had recovered from Parvo in Feb but was very ill. We took her in but found out she was anemic and in kidney failure. The vet said it was a genetic condition. Hailey crossed the bridge today 4/26 as there was nothing that could be done for her. Bless you little angel.

Lola_0809.jpg

It is with much sadness that Moogie crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 3/5/11. Moogie's multiple health issues were just too much for her little body. She will be missed by her foster family and all of PROS. Thank you to Monique von Sivers for her donation towards Moogie's care and comfort.

Loving and Letting Go Of Our Senior Rescues
I have a whole house of pugs but the seniors are my favorites. I usually foster the older pugs; I ask for the ones that are 10 years old and up. Kazzie was surrendered to PROS after her owner became to ill to care for her. I picked her up from Gena on Thanksgiving weekend after a dog show. She struck me as being a delicate little girl. She adjusted to life easily at my house with the other pugs. She was as quiet as a mouse unless she felt lost and then she would let out the most amazing howl. She was never a bother and never complained. She was very picky about her food. She would turn her nose up to kibble and canned food but would beg for whatever I was eating. I gave in and would add ham and other goodies to her food. I had the feeling that something was wrong when she would only eat straight chicken for me. I then noticed the telltale sign of a sick dog. I see enough dying dogs to have the intuition to when the end is near. Sure enough my suspicions were confirmed when I preformed her blood-work. Over the next 48 hours I saw the life leave her sweet face. I knew that she was suffering and the kindest thing was to let her go peacefully. It is never easy to euthanize a dog and it is especially hard when it is your own dog. I feel honored to have known and cared for Kazzie in the short amount of time that I did. I will always be willing to open my home to another senior pug.

Mary Jane_1210.jpg
On Dec 23, 2010 a very special little girl named Mary Jane came to me from the Martinez shelter. She was found as a stray with a ratty Xmas sweater on at night in the dark and the cold. Thin, missing fur with an arched spine she was sweet and loved giving kisses. We all tried so hard to save her but the infection in her spine went into her brain and she started having seizures. On Jan 4, 2011 she just quietly slipped away. Someone did not care for her at all but I did and for 2 weeks she had love, good food and a lap. Sleep tight sweet girl and remember you were loved. Gena Austin

katie.jpg
Beloved Katie, January 30, 1996 - November 23, 2010
Katie became very sick the last few days. When she couldn't walk without falling, couldn't go pee, and, most importantly, lost her enthusiasm for food, we knew it was time to let her go. She left this world quietly and in peace.
Our hearts are broken. We will love you always.

Things Katie taught us:
- No matter what age, you can always learn new things (like how to hook your front paws over the lip of the garbage can so you can "see" what is being thrown in)
- With a little time, patience, and a willingness to change, we can all become better pugs. (Katie started out life a scared-y cat. She then decided that the best defense was a good offense and she became a barker. In the second half of her life, she was a sweet pug who loved everyone and wasn't afraid of anything.)
- Always try new things by eating the piece whole and with enthusiasm - you can always spit it out later.
- Wake up every day happy and excited to eat.
- Sit up very straight and smile when you are asking someone for something.
- To the best of your ability, keep the people you love close to you at all times: Even if this means you have to follow them around.
- When arriving at the beach, the first thing to do is to spread your toes wide and run in circles.
- Do everything in life to the fullest: when you eat, eat with gusto, when you sleep, sleep deeply, when you love, love fully.
- Go for a daily walk - it is good for the heart and for the soul.
- Even when you can't see, can't hear, and have arthritis in your back; every day is still a good day.
- Try to find the positive in every situation. (Katie had to wear an Elizabethan collar one time. We thought she would hate it - but no, Katie actually thought she was Queen Elizabeth and paraded around holding her head high and waving at her subjects.)
- Even when our black hair (or face) becomes grey, we are still just as beautiful if not more so.
- When you first encounter a friend or loved one, always show them or tell them you are happy to see them.
Katie was a very wise pug.

Rex2.jpg
Tiffanie and I wanted to let you know that we had to put Rex down this morning. He appeared to have had a stroke and we needed to let him go. We were blessed to have him with us and he was adored by all our clients as well. We will miss him dearly but know he lived a great life in his 17 years on earth. He joins the rest of the kids over the rainbow bridge.
Love you old man,
Kris and Tiffanie

Buster2010.jpg
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them.
And every new dog that comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart.
If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog and I will become as generous and loving as they are.

Buster was one of our Retirement Pugs and he went to the Rainbow Bridge on November 9, 2010. I love you Buster and always will. I have no words to describe how lost I feel after losing you but I will remember you always. Love your mom, Gena.

teddy.jpg
My name is Teddy. I am a very mellow 13 year old pug, with one eye and an adorable face. I have a unique situation, where I have developed severe separation anxiety since my best pug girlfriend went over the rainbow bridge a year ago. I was so unhappy when my mom went to work, that I howled almost the whole time. I have been taking Prozac since November 2009, but it has not calmed me down enough for me to feel comfortable being alone. Even when I go with my mom on errands in the car, I had begun to howl. So now I'm in a forever foster home where someone is home almost all the time and I'm a much happier Pug!

Teddy went to the Rainbow Bridge on October 14, 2010. He is missed by his foster parents and all of PROS.

Mac_0707.jpg
Mac is a 15 yr old fawn male pug who was a stray and ended up in a shelter. Mac loves his foster mom's lap and although deaf and blind he knows his home and yard. He's getting old and doesn't walk around quite as much as he used to but he comes alive at mealtimes. Mac gets along well with all the other pugs in his foster home but sometimes wishes his young brother Barney would fall into a big black hole. Mac has been a PROS Pug since July 2007.

Mac went to the Rainbow Bridge on October 14, 2010. He is missed greatly by all of PROS and his mom.

polly.jpg
I adopted a 10-12 year old pug named Polly from PROS in November 2007. She had been treated for an advanced case of heartworm and had a damaged heart and collapsing trachea when I adopted her. She was a friend to me when I really needed a friend and I provided a home for her that I believe she was happy in. She passed away quietly in her sleep on August 29, 2010. She had gotten weaker and weaker and could no longer walk or go to the bathroom by herself but, she still liked to eat and she went out on walks and to work with me in her pet stroller. She was a joy to have and life is not the same without her.   Thank you, Kate T

Marcie_0608.jpg
Marcie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this evening, September 6, 2010. We think that her heart just gave out. She was about 12-14 years old. You will be missed Marcie.

DJ_0708.jpg
DJ was an 11 to 12 year old pug mix, who lost his home after his owner died. DJ passed over the Rainbow Bridge on August 29. He will be missed by his foster family and all of PROS.

dixie.jpg
Dixie was a sad little pug that came into rescue from Fremont Animal Control in mid August 2010. She was found abandoned at an extended stay motel after her owners had checked out, and they never came to claim her when contacted. Starved to nearly a skeleton and dehydrated, she spent a night in intensive care on IV fluids. Dixie had a host of problems stemming from neglect including patches of missing fur, animal bites on her ear and leg, dirty wounds, skin, eye and ear infections and was mostly blind and deaf.

Dixie passed away on 9/17/10 in her sleep. She had been going downhill and losing weight and her physical ailments were just too much for her little 10 pound body. Rest in peace now, little Dixie. Your foster mom misses you so much and so do Evie and Vivian. Thank you to all our supporters who kindly kept her in their thoughts and well wishes.

rocko.jpg
It is with great sadness we share the news that our beloved Rocko crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on May 30, 2010. He passed quietly in his sleep. Although he was 17 years old, he always thought he was still a puppy. He gave us 8 years of love and enjoyment. He was our second adoption from PROS.

He never saw a hand he didn't think should be petting him. He shared his smile and love with everyone he met. There is a great loneliness since he left us. He is missed by our entire family. There is comfort in the thought that is with his step brother Dewey, step sisters Joy and Blondie, his hospice foster sisters Lindy and Elsie.

Rocko, we will love you forever. Mom and Dad and your pug family AKA Jan, John, Velvet, Timmy and Mocha Grover.

noah.jpg
With sadness we say goodbye to our dear sweet little Noah. We could tell the minute we fostered him that growing up he had a very hard life. He was so appreciative of love and affection; he would howl at us to show his thanks for us returning home to him. His occasional crossed eyes would look and stare at us to make sure we were still close by. His little body was so compromised during his life that he could not fight off those bad cancer cells any longer. It is good to know he is now across that rainbow bridge and pain free and surrounded with love from his sister Yodamae and brothers Pocho and Benji.

We lost our precious "little man" Felix Han-Wesselmann on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Felix came to us as a foster dog from Pug PROS in June of 2007, Given that our wedding was less than three months away, our plan was to foster a small dog that, in theory, would be an easy in-and-out, then we could focus on our wedding. But physically, Felix was a mess: trouble breathing due to an elongated palate, his right eyeball ruptured and needing to be removed, not neutered, way too scrawny, and possessing an extra, upside- down dewclaw on each back paw. In spite of all this, he had enough attitude packed into that 12-pound frame to supply of pack of wolves. Little did we know at that time the impact he would have on our lives. Thanks to the generous support of Pug PROS, Felix endured three surgeries that summer, put on some weight, and fit right into our family.

In November of 2007 Felix was finally pronounced healthy enough to be adopted, and in December his would-be forever home was found. By this timeFelix had been with us for six months, far longer than any previous rescue dog, had been a member of our wedding party, endured all those surgeries, and had developed an unprecedented bond with Kirby and with us. Long story short, we became what are lovingly known in the rescue community as "foster failures." Emotionally exhausted but incredibly relieved, we drove back to San Francisco as a confirmed family of four.

Felix welcomed a (human) baby sister, our daughter Hana, in July 2009, and what a devoted big brother he turned out to be. Neither words nor pictures -you really had to be there -can do justice to the incredible concern Felix showed for his baby sister the first time he heard her cry...and many times thereafter. From his body language to his sad growl to the expression on his face, Felix's entire being oozed compassion.

Felix showed small signs of illness on December 1,2009, and began showing signs of serious health problems on December 3. He also kept giving us reasons to believe full recovery was possible. As always, he was a trooper through it all and did his best to amaze and comfort us in spite of his own discomfort and fear. He spared us the heart-wrenching decision to euthanize, showing a remarkable resurgence just before a this-may-be-it vet appointment. He hung in there for another half-day, enduring almost hourly seizures and finally expiring -possibly from a heart attack -in the comfort of our bed during the early morning hours.

We are devastated by this loss and, at the same time, we are comforted by the knowledge that his passing was quick and that little Hana is too young to feel the impact of this loss yet old enough to have formed a heartwarming bond with him and provided us with priceless video footage of it. Most of all we are grateful to Felix for making it as easy as he could for us. Felix's body was cremated, and soon after a portion of his ashes will be scattered in three of his favorite places: the Foster City Dog Park, Lafayette Park near the apartment where we lived when he came to us, and Fort Funston.

We know little of Felix's life before he came into ours, but we find solace in the knowledge that in his two and a half years with us we made the most of our opportunity to give him a loving home, a place in our warm bed, plenty of food, lots of chicken treats, and daily opportunities to play with and put smiles on the faces of countless people and fellow canines. These things cannot possibly equal the unbelievable love, devotion, and compassion he gave to us during that time. Felix, our lives would not be the same if we had not met you, they'll never be the same with you gone, and we are eternally grateful for you. Farewell, Dear Friend.

Love,
Lillian, Keith, Hana, and Kirby

Dexter was around 12 yrs old and was dumped by his owner in a shelter after his wife died. He was deaf but loved people and going for walks. He had medical problems starting with seizures then a stroke and then tracheal collapse. Dexter went to the Rainbow Bridge today May 8, 2010. He was so loved by his foster mom who cared him no matter what problems he had and he will be missed greatly by all of PROS. Dexter came to PROS in October of 2009.

With heartfelt grief Sara and I share the passing of our beloved Dylan across the rainbow bridge on November 24th at approximately 9 am, just a few weeks short of his 17th birthday. After a long and difficult first ten years, Dylan found his "forever home" with us in October of 2003. There is no way for me to adequately memorialize this amazing pug who was not only our first rescue pug, but the very first of many adopted, foster, and hospice pugs. Although we had originally planned on adopting Duffy, things changed at the last minute and Sara ended up picking up Dylan, "sight unseen". Not sure what to expect, we quickly fell in love with him and have been pug lovers ever since. Dylan captured our hearts with his wonderful personality and complete devotion. He changed our lives in profound ways and brought so much joy to our family. On my part, I had not the faintest idea that when Sara adopted Dylan as "her" new dog how quickly he would claim the deepest reaches of my heart or that he would become my constant companion and best friend. Six years together was far too short, but I am grateful for every wonderful moment together and for all the memories stored in that special part of my soul that Dylan will forever own. Sara and I, (and Peanut), would like to say a heartfelt thank you Gena and PROS for bringing this most special little guy into our lives.
"Whatever it is that we love, the greater our love, the greater our corresponding grief if the loved person or thing is lost. It is the depth of our love that will determine the nature of our grieving..."
-Jane Goodall
Goodbye my best buddy, Daddy will remember and love you forever.
Joel and Sara

Today (Jan. 14, 2010) I lost a piece of my heart. Tasha went to the Bridge and I can imagine her being able to run and bite the butts of all the puppies. She made it to 14 years old and that was far longer than any of us thought she would ever make. In the 5 years she owned me she made herself a part of me and despite her disabilities she was a force to be reckoned with. I love you forever my little girl and you are still and forever will be the matriarch of my heart. I am so glad you came into my life and you taught me so much about life. Thank you little girl. Gena Austin

Daisy crossed over the rainbow bridge on 01/13/10. Daisy was a PROS Pug since March 26, 2004. She shared her love with her foster home and everyone she met. She is missed by her foster home and all of PROS

Sadly we share the news that Miss Sally Bobbin crossed over the Rainbow bridge in November 2009. Sally was 18 years old. Miss Sally Bobbin and Delmar Orrell have been very generous in helping PROS. They have sponsored and sent donations to help PROS with the medical expenses for many of our needy pugs. In the picture you will see Miss Sally Bobbin on the left and her buddy Alfred on the right.

It is with profound sadness and deep regret that I must inform you that my precious angel, Sadie passed over the Rainbow Bridge Thursday evening, December 10th. She passed peacefully and surrounded by the loving embrace of her adoring family. Sadie battled declining health for a better part of the last year. Her unbreakable and irresistable spirit just could not keep up with her slowing body. She fought hard but it was inevitable....her spinal nerve damage declined quickly and she developed a severe urinary tract infection (e coli) that was difficult to beat. She is resting in peace and is missed beyond what any words can express. Thank you PROS for allowing me to share 3 1/2 years of bliss....Sadie brightened my life in extraordinary ways and she touched everyone - human and canine she came across. Please pass this news on to Sonja Simmons - who lovingly fostered Sadie before she came into my life and thank her for giving Sadie a wonderful foster home. My very best to you both and PROS.... Todd Kalk

Molly crossed over the rainbow bridge on11-20-09. Molly was a PROS Pug since August 2007. She shared her love with her foster home and everyone she met. She is missed by her foster home and all of PROS.

It is with sadness we inform you that Maxwell crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on 11/6/09. Valerie Gardner has been his foster mom for two years. He came to PROS from the the Stockton shelter in Nov of 2005. This sweet old guy was about 15yrs old. He gave love to everyone he met. He is missed by his foster home and all of PROS.

I regret to inform you that our precious Mushu, formally known as George, died this morning (11/7/09). This was so unexpected, I'm in shock. He'd been acting strange all week. We went to the vet Tuesday and again on Thursday. His symptoms were nonspecific, but we believed it to be back pain and he was prescribed medications to relieve his discomfort. This morning, while silently resting, he slipped away soundlessly. We are just devastated. Though, he was with us just short of 6 months, he gave us a lifetime supply of love. We miss him so much already! Sincerely, Jennifer Voorhees

It is with a sad heart we must share the news that Chewbacca crossed over the Rainbow Bridge today, 10/23/09, He was with PROS a very short time but he was loved by his foster family and the members of PROS. Chewbacca you are missed by all of PROS.

"An endearing Pug," is how Ed has described our beloved Pug, Diva. She was my "Petitie Girl." In the short time that we had with Diva, she brought us great love and happiness. Her favorite spot was on top of Ed's guitar case. She was happy all the time. She enjoyed exploring every room of our home. Our hearts still ache for her. Her absence is evident every moment of every day. Her ashes will rest beside our beloved, Baby's ashes. We will think of Diva every day and appreciate the great gift of love she brought to this house. She mad our home come alive. "Those we hold in our arms a little while, we hold in our hearts forever" Thank you. Sincerely, Kathy Maggio

Spanky, my golden eyed girl, passed away this September at our ranch in Utah. We adopted her from PROS three years ago after her owner passed away. When Spanky came into our house she first climbed to the highest point she could find (the top of our leather couch). After watching us carefully for 2 hours she jumped down and climbed into my lap. She looked at me and her golden eyes said, "you will do". She gave me her heart and took a piece of mine. She would boss us awake in the morning and herd me in to the kitchen to make a latte so she could have some foam. She loved latte foam. We will miss her feisty little spirit. Richard and Shelley Lamoreaux

I'm sad to inform you all that Marley, my black pug girl (old lady), whom I adopted around about 2000-2001, was humanely euthanized today. We think she was about 15 years old and may have had a brain tumor. Overnight she became incontinent, and completely uninterested in any and all food (a medical emergency for a pug, in my opinion), and at the vet's today began pressing her head into the wall of her kennel. She was a great little girl, the namesake of House of Marley, which I will probably close, because, well, without a Marley, what is the point? Thanks Andrea Rainey Chester, Bugsy and Erwin

With the heaviest of hearts, we share the news that Sally crossed over the Rainbow Bridge during June of. 2009. She is missed by her foster familly and all of PROS.

Susie was at least 15 yrs old, blind, deaf, senile but still sweet soft Susie. She left us today and her foster families who loved her miss her very much. Here's to constant foot rubs, warm sun and soft beds all for Miss Susie from now on. Gena Austin

8/21/2009: We lost Muffin about a month ago. What a delight she was! Stubborn to the end, but full of life and love. She never let her blindness stop her, or slow her down, never missed a meal (I swear she could tell time), happily ruled the roost and constantly charmed people. We still look for her when we go to sit on the couch as she was usually under seat! I hope you're doing well and thanks again for the note. Joan

In March 2005 we adopted a Pug, Reggie, through PROS. Last Saturday, Aug, 15 2009 we lost Reggie to oral Cancer. We only had him for 4 years, but they were very Special years.;It was like he had always been with us. I like to think they were Reggie's happiest. He was in good health until May of this year when he had his 6 month dental cleaning at Woodland Vet Hospital. Dr.Tracy Stine found a lesion on his gum. We opted not to treat the Cancer due to his advanced age. He was pain free and happy till the night before we took him in. He was 14 this year. Reggie and I spent a happy, special summer since his diagnosis. I'm not working at this time, so I spent most every waking hour with him. Reggie was my shadow, my best friend, and closest buddy this summer. It was the best! I miss him more than is possible! We would like all who knew Reggie to know of his passing. Thank you all for bringing Reggie together with us. Anna and Bob Diller

We are the family who adopted Marley about a month ago. He adjusted very quickly to become an amazing addition to our family. Sadly he passed away (we think from a heart attack) early yesterday morning (Aug. 18, 2009). We are terribly devastated by the loss. Adopting Marley from PROS, even though it was for a short while, was a terrific experience and we will always cherish the time we had with him! Marley was our constant companion and was seldom alone. My daughter cuddled with him in her bed at night. My son liked to take him on regular walks to our neighborhood parks. Marley was such a sweet and gentle dog that everyone fell in love with him. He charmed all the friends and relatives we visited this summer. He even charmed his way onto a shuttle bus that had a no dog policy! Thank you PROS for so many wonderful memories with our first dog! Robin Endres and Ted Haxo

With the heaviest of hearts, we share the news that Mia crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, August 7. 2009. She is missed by her foster familly and all of PROS.

Our precious Dharma (formerly Darla) passed over the rainbow bridge today. She had been suffering with pulmonary hypertension and a possible nasal tumor but put up a brave fight for quite a long time. She was the sweetest, most loving little girl and we were so blessed to have had the chance to love her these last 3 years. -Virginia Herte

On July 8, 2009, our beloved Dewey crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. He was our first foster and our first adoption from PROS. He gave us seven years of love and enjoyment. He will missed by our entire family. He came to us weighting 37.5 lbs and taught us that a pug could do anything. He got down to a handsome weight of 21 lbs. Approximately 10 months ago a mast cell tumor was discovered in his nose. The tumor was removed by surgery. The surgery and 10 months of chemotherapy took its toll. With much sadness we watch as he crossed over the bridge. He now enjoys that wonderful place where there is no pain and he can be with the other members of our family. He is with his step sisters Joy, Blondie, his hospice foster sisters Lindy and Elise. Dewey, we will love you forever. Mom and Dad and your pug family aka Jan,John, Rocko, Velvet, Timmy and Mocha Grover

I adopted Zoe at the age of 9 late October 2007 and she stayed with me until her passing on June 29,2009. She was diagnosed with thrombocyptopenia. She was my feisty, wild woman when she first came to live with me and after 16 weeks training at PetSmart and almost two years later, she earned a place in my heart next to her sister, Chloe. When I lost Chloe in August 2007 to cancer, I was heartbroken.Although we were living on borrowed time, the end was still tough. When Zoe entered my life, joy and fulfillment returned to me tenfold. Zoe's legacy is that she was my first adopted dog from Pug Rescue. I am hopeful that in the near future,I can contribute (even if it is one pug girl at a time) to a pug's joy and happy life. She was an older girl but she was strong and feisty and full of life. Lately, Zoe was dealing with an inflamed disc and receiving acupuncture from Dr. Kirsten Williams at Bishop Ranch, which was making such a difference for Zoe's mobility. In her two years with me, Zoe had a great support network of dedicated doctors who we will always be grateful to: Dr. Doug Rohn of BAVS, Dr. Eleanor Dunn of Lake Vet Hospital, Dr. Williams of BRVC, and Dr. Smith of Animal Eye Care. I would like to think that her final two years with me, made her especially happy and loved. I know that in pet heaven, she runs with her sister Chloe, finds her favorite patch of grass, eats her carrots and TD regular bites with glee, and never feels lonely anymore. My spirited girl Zoe, Grandma Lola and I love and miss you very much. We are grateful to have had this small window of quality time, together. Your special little gait will always be remembered....as will your huge eyes that followed Mom Terry everywhere, all the time. Love, "Mom" Terry

Hi I'm Zipper and it's with much sadness that I write this letter, to tell you that I lost my big brother, Pudgy. Pudgy crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, June 19, 2009. He passed away peacefully at the wise old age of 14 yrs. his heart gave out on him we were side by side and one of the humans companion was there also. He was never alone. I sure miss Pudgy a lot, but I'm real glad for him that he didn't suffer and passed on so gently. It's a comfort to me, knowing that right now as I write this letter, Pudgy is feeling fine again….romping in lush meadow and running up and down rolling hills at the Rainbow Bridge where he waits for me. Then, we will cross the Rainbow Bridge together.. Brothers Forever. To honor my Big Brother Pudgy, I’ve asked my humans to send a little snack money along with my letter, to help my Brother Pugs who still wait for a Forever Home. Pudgy would have wanted that. That’s the kind of pug he was, caring and sharing to the end. Loving Regards and Bless You all, Zipper and all of the Adobe family (Pat Purvis and Jane Halbert)

Our little black pug, Bridgette, died suddenly at the ranch June 4. We were getting ready to take her on one of her favorite walks to the aspen grove when she just exhaled her last breath and was gone. We are missing those little mirror eyes, but take comfort on how beautiful she developed in 3 short years with us from the starved abandoned pug PROS rescued. The places we went. She was a great traveler, loved her walks stalking chipmunks & squirrels, a super companion-our alpha grril. Bridgette's spirit will always be with us Shelley & Richard Lamoreaux

On Monday, June 8th, we suddenly lost Mr. Lucky. He was in perfect health, we are still in shock. He was the best boy and the only pug with no tail we've ever seen, just a stump. It was almost always wagging. It's hard to sum up his life with us in a paragraph. He was a happy boy and had a good life with us. His rescue brother Trevor really misses him, and so do we. His last day was spent at a pug gathering. This is his last picture alone, enjoying the sun. He had a happy 12 years and was very loved. Dan and Gary

Milo went over the rainbow bridge this morning. He had been going down for the last few months and his body finally gave out. He was a wonderful gift to foster from PROS and will always thank them for giving us the chance to love him. He will be missed. The Wollwerts

To Mona: Thank you God, for giving us your perfect dog to love. Thank you Gena, for being her foster mother for 11 months. Thank you Mona, for teaching me about love and devotion, patience and what it means to have spunk. We miss you terribly. But know that you are with God, who is so lucky to have you back. You will always be in my heart. Love, Sonja and Teddy

Tony died suddenly during the week of April 16, 2009. He was a special little boy and could bring a smile to anyone who met him. He is missed by his mom, Anne Wilson and all of her friends at PROS.

On April 27, 2009, Stanley crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. He was the beloved companion of Sandy Champion. He is missed by his family and his friends at PROS.

I adopted my Lucy in 2005 when she was 9 years old. We went through a lot together including loosing an eye. My sweet girl was never very secure but she loved me and I loved her and my heart is broken to have lost her. I'll see you again one day sweet baby. Gena Austin

My sweet Little Daisy went to the rainbow bridge today, 4/6/09. She was 12 years old and came to PROS from a shelter after being diagnosed with SARDS. She never recovered mentally but was so loved by my family and I'll always miss her. I will never regret having been able to give her 4 years of love and caring after someone in her life decided they couldn't cope with her disease. It never stopped her from being a Pug or a loved family member. Gena Austin

Lexi crossed the rainbow bridge at exactly midnight (3/25/09). I think it may have been her heart. She had severe breathing problems. She got a drink and then lay down and passed away. I was with her and the labored breathing just stopped. I am so sorry. But she had a little over 10 months here that I believe she was happy. I will miss the little girl and her true spirit. Poor little thing. I will have her cremated and buried here on our place. I am so sad thatt she didn’t live longer. Jacqui

I'm lost for words.... Last night we lost our sweet Sophie. She was having heart issues over the weekend and began passing out multiple times yesterday. Despite being almost 16, she still had a great spirit and quite an opinionated attitude. I don't know what more endearing, her eyes that would draw you in or the one lone tooth that stuck out from her lower jaw. Rex seems to be a little lost this morning but as Sophie did we will charge ahead. We thank her for the love and sweetness that was our Sophie Bean. Kris

Special thank yous to Greg Mattson, Tiffanie Brown and Kris Kroner and Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin for their donations to help pay Sophia's medical bills.

My handsome man, Bubba, has gone over the rainbow bridge today. February 23rd, 2009. Bubba has dealt with Diabetes. Plus the side affects, which ended up costing him his eye sight, hearing and teeth. But my little man handled it like a champ. Bubba had the inner strength and determination to just keep trucking right along like nothing was wrong until his disease won in the end. My Family and I have rescued (3) pugs from PugPros and Bubba was one of the little blessings we were gifted with. It was (1) year ago and (2) days that we lost our other little gift Jin-Jin, so I say to Bubba... Look for Jin-Jin Bubba and she will show you the way. And you both can save me a seat next to you in Heaven! I miss you so much my little man, you took a piece of my heart with you. And you taught me how to buck up and be strong even under the hardest times. So in closing... Bubba hold on to my heart and we will meet again, I Love you sooooo much! Love Mommy. (Teresa Powers and Family)

It is with much sadness PROS said goodbye to Phoebe. Phoebe crossed over the rainbow bridge, at the vet’s office after suffering seizures, on Feb. 27, 2009 . The vet thinks she may have had PDE (Pug Dog Encephalitis). Although Phoebe had only been with PROS for a month she brought love and joy to her foster home. She is missed by her foster family and all of PROS.

“It is with great sadness that our beloved Becky crossed over the rainbow bridge Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Becky, being as special as she was, was out on a walk with her beloved Shelby (our other pug) and friends, and passed away peacefully in my arms on one of the beautiful trails in Half Moon Bay. Although I was only given 5-1/2 months with this little angel, Ms. Becky brought so much love and joy to us all. She will forever be in our hearts.”
Barbara, Becky’s mom.

It is with great regret knowing that our world will never be the same as Vito (formerly Junior) before we adopted him, has passed after a long life of 13 years on December 14th, 2008. Vito had many health issues that required our care. It was always an honor to be there for him. Everyone says their Pug is the best and he was no exception. He was the kind of Pug that could melt your heart with a look. He had the most peaceful loving soul. We always called him the little alien in a Pug suit. He brought us so much joy he leaves a large hole. You can read his story on the “happy endings” link. It was as happy an ending for us as much as him. He was the best pal anyone could ever ask for. Life must go on but this special little pug will always be remembered with deep love. He is survived by Lola another PROS rescue and a rescue Puggle Mia and his heartbroken parents Scott and Maria. Thank you PROS for 7 wonderful years with our beautiful Vito

I write this with a broken heart......I am sorry to say that we lost Charley this morning, January 2, 2009. He started vomiting a little yesterday, then by this morning his breathing was labored, so we rushed him into the ER. He was immediately hooked up to oxygen, and the doctor starting running numerous tests. Unfortunately, during this time he went into respiratory failure. They revived him, but five minutes later he went into respiratory failure again, and they lost him. Thank you for making it possible for us to love this wonderful animal for the last 9 months. He brought us all, and many members of our community, so much joy. Our family is in tremendous much pain right now, but I need to keep remembering that it isn't about us. We need to be thankful that we were able to give our dear Charley a home filled love, attention, and warmth in his last year of life. I know he died a very happy dog.
Best, Kathy Burkland

PROS sends a big thank you to Kathy Burkland for her Donation in memory of Charley Burkland. One of the sweetest dogs we've ever known.

"Little Benji, with his crooked spine and poor eyesight in his one remaining eye, has left us today, January 3, 2009) to be a healthy happy-go-lucky sightful pug in doggie heaven. Benji was a wonderful pug, never complaining, never demanding except of course when it came to his feeding time. His stomach was like clockwork telling us it was time to eat. He can now join Yoda Mae and Pochie across that Rainbow Bridge and romp the fields of green. We will miss him dearly. Princess Paloma and Duke send wet licks to their sweet brother Benji."

Toby crossed over the Rainbow Bridge during the first week of December. One of his eye's ruptured and there was nothing they could do for him due to his age etc. The Vet had given me pain medication and a sedative to make him comfortable. I talked to the vet around 10AM and elected to spend the day with him. We snuggled in bed, he ate a full jar of baby food and then in the afternoon I gave him the sedative. We took a long nap and about 6PM took him to the Vet. He never woke up while I was holding him in the car. He was snoring loudly and looking very peaceful when the time came. It was hard but he went to sleep lying in his bed next to me. Maria Thompson

On June 4th, 2008, I had to say goodbye to my dear friend Roy. I had the privlege of Roy allowing me in his life in Sept 2006. Even in his old man age (17 years!) we had so much fun together. He loved to travel with me. We went to Alaska for a few months, to Oregon twice, to Washingtion and on a long roadtrip to Colorado and back. I know that after he was found abandoned in a condemed home in Oakland, he had 2 very special years in a warm bed with plenty or food and love. I miss him so much. Goodbye little friend.

Katelyn Smith

My sweet baby girl Mugsy crossed the rainbow bridge this morning,October 16, 2008 . I am so sad and so heartbroken, I feel like a piece of me went with her. I already miss her so much and don't know what I will do without her. Even though I only got to spend 4 amazing years with her, I feel like it was many more and i woukd not trade one sleepless night holding her for anything in this world. But I am so thankful I got to be here with her and she wasn't alone.

When she started going down hill on Monday, in the back of my mind, I thought how ironic we got the call to get another little black girl named Mugsy from the shelter and I wondered if it was a way of telling me as another one prepares to leave your life, another one comes in.

Elena Temple-Shea

With the heaviest of hearts, we share the news that we had to let Fabio cross over the Rainbow Bridge last Monday, October 6, 2008. We are deeply saddened and miss him terribly. Over the last few months, Fabio had slowed down remarkably and walking and mobility were becoming greater challenges for him. We took him to a specialist to view his x-rays and to examine him and they reported that he showed and demonstrated advanced spinal degeneration. Fabio brought us tremendous love and joy, after the loss of our previous pug, Mabel, Fabio had given us the opportunity to love a special furry companion again. Though our time was short-only one and a half years-he has left a treasured place in our hearts and tremendous void in our lives. Thank you for bringing Fabio to us and giving us such a wonderful little dog to love and spoil. We hope that he and Mabel are running freely, barking at squirrels, sunbathing and not hurting anymore.

Judi, Barry and Emily Hampshire

Dear Friends - Haley, our benevolent curmudgeon, crossed the Rainbow Bridge today, September 27, 2008. She had been ill for about a month. Haley was our first rescue through PROS. She was five years old when we got him, and we have had her for five years. Four other Pros rescues have followed her to our home through the years. She will be missed by all of us, including her pack -Annabelle, Ernie, Oliver, Princess Daisy, Tyler, and Lily.

Linda and Richard

Yancy went to the bridge yesterday morning, 10/13/08, and I am just now able to sit down and tell you. I’ve spent the last five years with him always under foot, and I always said that the secret service could take lessons from him. I just don’t know what I’m going to do without him around. For a dog who was blind and deaf, it’s amazing how much presence he brought to the house, because it was so quiet last night without him. Here are a few pictures of him. I try to remind myself that he had five great years with us, and that if he hadn’t been saved by Pug Pros, he would have died 5-1/2 years ago. For someone’s throw-away dog, he turned out to be the most devoted and loyal little friend I could have asked for, and at this point nothing is going to make this easier or better. I will miss him for the rest of my life. Gwenna MacDonald

It is with a sad heart that we have to report that Donnie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Oct. 9, 2008. Donnie was picked up from an animal services unit in the Central Valley after he was dumped there by his caretaker to be euthanized. Donnie had been starved and caged for so long that he could not walk due to muscle atrophy in his hind legs and he has no awareness of anything that was going on around him. PROS tried to nurse him back to health, His health continued to decline. He started to have seizures. After consulting with two Veterinarians it was determined that he sould be allowed to cross over the Rainbow Bridge and end his suffering. We believe that the quality of life he received while he was with PROS made his short life better. He is missed by all of PROS.

PROS thanks all the people who have sent donations to help pay his medical bills: Elaine La Mastra-Stoner, Jonathan Connett, Laura Merer, Mary Bova, Terry Wong-Cook and Nazzi Shishido..

Dixie crossed over the rainbow bridge on Sep. 13, 2008. Although she only been gone one day I miss her so much already. She had the purest soul I've ever met. She was always so happy, even when she was getting really sick. She didn't have an aggressive bone in her little body, and yet she was tougher than both our other pugs put together. I can only hope that she was with us long enough to erase any memories of her prior life. I'll always remember her angelic face, looking up at me with those big eyes of hers. She was such a special pug! Sara

It is with sadness that we must say Goodbye to Jewel. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Aug. 4, 2008. She was a brave little girl and will be missed very much by her mom, Sandy Champion, and all of PROS.

It is with a heavy heart I am writing to tell you my boy Gus, adopted from PROS was rushed to the emergency vet with breathing problems last evening, 8/20/08, and when I left they thought he would be OK with breathing treatments, however they called me at 6am to tell me he went into cardiac arrest and they couldn't revive him. It's quite a shock realizing that we won't be bringing him home, he brought so much joy and laughter to our family and he will be sorely missed. We have wonderful memories to help sustain us, but it will take awhile to process this for me. MaryAnn and Bob Salinovich.

Sporty came to live with me in early April of 1999, who at that time, already had 3 owners, all of which had a story of why they couldn't keep him...........from barking in an apartment, marking fabrics (the woman was a designer) to not getting along with the other Pug, to other lame excuses not worth mentioning that we in rescue have heard a million times. I fostered him and came to realize that he was not going to be one of the easier Pugs to adopt due to some of his odd behaviors. I must say that the past 9 years have certainly not all been easy but Sporty and I did come to an understanding or a meeting of the minds so to speak and today was, perhaps, one of the saddest moments of my life as I came to realize that rescuing a pet is truly a lifetime commitment, theirs or ours! In these difficult times, Pug Rescue, here in Las Vegas is busting at the seams with Pugs for adoption, so tonight, I sit here and contemplate, which lucky Pug, will enter our life next.............. I have always said that one Pug leaves this world to make room for another and Sporty has just exited to prepare the stage for his protégée............. Thank you Pug Rescue for giving me the gift of their company...............Farewell Sporty and all those that go before you! Nadine

Merlin passed away yesterday, July 3, 2008,while we were at work. Seems like it was just plain old age since he was doing good, loving his food and telling the other dogs all about it right until the end. Thanks to you and Pugpros for giving us the chance to have him in our lives for almost two years. He was a very special guy. Best to you and your herd. Janice

Sadly we must let you know that Pugsley past away in her sleep last night (June 29, 2008). She was our first foster in Sacramento. She will be forever happy. She was always wagging her tail. We picked her up from Bradshaw Shelter. Someone put her in a drop box. Susan and Thomas Wollwert.

It is with sadness that we must say Goodbye to Miss Daisy. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge today (June 26, 2008). Life has gotten hard for her. She struggled with breathing problems, her hips and chronic UTL. She was a brave little girl and we will miss her very much. PROS will also miss her.

My big baby, Ben is gone to the bridge today, June 17, 2008. Two years ago I saw his picture at the shelter and his eyes just spoke to me, I'll never forget those eyes. Richard and I drove in a rain storm to get him because I swore he wouldn't die in the shelter. I love you Ben, I miss you and I hope the past two years were good for you. We spoiled you and loved you and you'll live forever in my heart. Gena Austin

It is with sadness that we report that Keesha ("the Wonder Pug"), who the Kevane family adopted back in 2001, has passed away. She went the best way, in her sleep, sunning herself on our back porch on a beautiful late summer California day. Keesha was the best of all dogs - devoted, watchful, always ready to play and a great companion over the years as our family grew from just my wife and I, to my wife and I PLUS 3 little girls. All of us miss her terribly, and after many, many months, we have decided to look into adopting another pug, perhaps for an August 2008 timeframe if possible, which is the month in which our 3 girls have their birthdays. With that in mind, I have completed a new application, which is attached here. Let me know if you have any questions, we'd be thrilled to have an opportunity to adopt another pug. David and Catherine Kevane, and the kids

It is with great sadness and many tears that we share the news that our hospice pug, Elsie, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge today, May 13, 2008 . Although we only had her for 14 months she made an impression on our hearts. She was in Rescue for 4 ½ years. She was 15 1/2 years old. We miss her very much.

Thank you to her sponsors Leslie Devine, Diane Horowitz, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin and her loving hospice foster parents, Jan and John Grover, who made her comfortable and happy till the end.

It is with a very heavy and sad heart that we share the news that our sweet Reverie passed over the rainbow bridge May 1, 2008. We adopted her from PROS 5 years ago on Mothers day. She became central to our family and we are grieving her loss as is her companion "Smokey" who we adopted from PROS 6 years ago. She was the sweetest, loving, happy girl that always would greet people with a tail wag and kiss. We were blessed to be her home for last 5 years and she knows she was loved deeply. Steve & Wendy Lack and Smokey

It is with a broken heart that I have to tell you that Biscuit passed away last night. She had a perfect pug day, where she slept in late, sat in my lap for hours and had a nice walk. She slept under my head on the couch while I watched a movie and in my lap on the patio in the evening while I chatted with friends. Late in the night she woke up agitated and when I tried to calm her down she threw up and then went into seizure. I rushed her to emergency vet and they tested her for poisons, just in case she got into something. Sadly, the vet determined that she was likely suffering from a brain tumor that was incurable. She had 2 more seizures and went from my perfect pug to pained and disoriented in minutes. The vet said that there was nothing that could be done to ease her until she passed and so they put her to sleep in my arms. For all the pain, emptiness and heartbreak I'm feeling right now, I would never take back a moment with Biscuit. I spoiled as much as I could and she gave me all the love and happiness in the world. She would come into work with me once every couple weeks at the radio station and would make everyone smile. She would sit in my lap or sleep in her doggie bed while I was on the air and during long songs we'd walk around the block. She loved to sniff around a new neighborhood! Thank you for bringing her into my life. I know that the pain will dull eventually, but I will always miss her. In time, I'll be able to adopt another rescue pug and will be calling on you. Thank you for all that you do and the immeasurable happiness that Biscuit brought into my life the last 4 years. Sincerely, Catherine Nevels

Victor crossed over the Rainbow bridge on 3/20/08. He is missed by his family and all of PROS.

Pugly crossed over the Rainbow bridge on 3/21/08. He is missed by all of PROS.

My Name is Teresa Powers and my family has adopted (2) of the beautiful pugs you have helped. One: her name is Jin-Jin..... My beautiful baby has passed this morning, Thu, 21 Feb 2008. I will never be the same without her in my life. She had the most beautiful soul I have ever seen. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of her life and bringing us together. To my beautiful Angel Jin-Jin wherever you may be....Mommy Loves you with all of my heart and save me a seat next to you in heaven. Thanks for listening, Teresa Powers and Family~

Mouton had been slowly degenerating and in the last month we have been helping him out more and more. The doctor had done as much as possible along with us. He stopped eating and drinking water. Friday after seeing the vet it was apparent it was his time. We took him home and spent all night loving him and just being there. Saturday Jan 15th I took him in so he would feel no more pain and will be in a better place with all the pugs we have loved, that have also left this world.. We had Mouton for almost 7 years. We picked him up on Brock's 7th birthday. He was a loving-cuddly-laid-back-California attitude pug. Everyone he met just thought he was one of a kind. He had many fans that would remember him when they came to see a pug we were fostering. He was quite a character not easily forgotten. We were blessed to have Mouton in our lives and thank P.R.O.S. for that opportunity. God Bless, Susan, Thomas and Brock

Violet was with us for only a heartbreakingly brief 11 days before her unexpected death following elongated palate surgery. From the moment that she entered our lives, Violet became a part of our family. We mourn her death and grieve for the void that marks the special place that she so quickly occupied in our lives. We can only hope that Violet felt how deeply she was loved and wanted by our family and knows how much she will be missed. With love, Jennifer, Stephen, Sara, Odie, Rumple & Casey

Is was a heavy, heavy heart that we said "good-bye" to Louise this morning. Louise passed over the RAINBOW BRIDGE at 2:00 this morning in David's arms. We were blessed 8 years ago to be able to adopt "Thelma and Louise" from PROS. We were fortunate that PROS allowed us to adopt as we live in So Cal. Little did we know that the day we flew to Sacramento to pick them up that our lives would change..they definitely filled our home and hearts with more joy than they will ever know. Louise was diagnosed with Cancer this past Friday and this morning she is gone. She was without a doubt the most loving animal we have ever known and we will miss her beyond words. We find peace in knowing that we did everything we could to make the past 8 years of her life the best she could have..the best is what she deserved. You will be in our hearts always, Louise. We love you. David & Peggy Reed

Wed, 2 Jan 2008, After a series of illnesses we had to let Sammy go tonight. On New Years eve and the day before he had a couple of seizures and was diagnosed with diabetes. He had numerous other problems, collapsed trachea, blind, and mostly deaf with arthritis, we decided it was just too much. He wasn't recovering from the seizure, it was time. He was our second rescue pug. He loved his toys, food, and the song White Wedding by Billy Idol. The beginning guitar part would drive him nuts, it was really cute. He's survived by his rescue brother, Mr. Lucky.

Kirby crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on December 29, 2007. He was absolutely delightful, playful and danced with joy and he loved to talk especially for breakfast and dinner. He shared love with his foster family and will be missed by them and all of PROS.

Baby (formally Lucille) crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on December 12, 2007. Baby was unable to recover from a pancreatic episode. Her adoptive mother's words express how everyone who knew Baby felt " I will forever be grateful for the time Baby was a part of my life, no matter how short. Baby was a gift. I loved Baby as much as I have ever loved anyone. I did not get enough time with her."

She is missed by her family and all of PROS.

Gemini passed over the Rainbow Bridge on November 5, 2007. Gemini had been a Hospice Pug since Dec. 30, 2005. She is missed by her foster family and all of PROS

Friday, October 19, 2007, an elegy for Midge.

for all of you that knew and loved the great midge, our little old pug who was blind and deaf (not to mention courageous) and had only one eye, i am very sorry to announce that she passed away today.

I loved Midge because she defied all laws of nature. We think she was born sometime circa 1994, and while her early years remain a mystery, and we have no idea what happened to her right eye, she came into our life via the guy that runs the gun shop/pug rescue center in Livermore in sometime in 2004 and she spent most of her days foraging for food in our living room with her heightened sense of smell (it really was her only sense that functioned) and sitting on the couch making fun pig noises while my mom knit and watched Law and Order. She was loved by all who met her and leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will no sooner fade from our minds then her pee stains from my parents carpet

I miss her very much, I think we all do. She was a warm and fuzzy little girl with a heart of gold and was unlike any other dog on earth.

RIP Arrow Midgery Lucky Princess Muldoon c.1994 - 10/18/2007 Lil dog, I don't think we could forget you if we tried.

Our PROS adoptee, Buster (formerly Casey) died peacefully in his sleep on August 31 after struggling for several months with increasing paralysis in his hindquarters. Although he lived with us for less than three years, we'll remember the love, fun, snores and snorts he brought to our family forever. We'll never regret adopting an older dog--they bring so much love and joy to a family!

"My beloved Pochie has left my side and I am heartbroken. He was my sweet and gentle soul who brought much happiness to my household. I will never forget his "alien" bark nor his dimple butt cheeks. Pochie went to sleep with my arms around him. He had developed a semi-dislocated hip and diseased discs along with arthritis which prohibited his infamous pug strut and ability to bend his legs without pain. The sad thing about it was that he still had his little keen mind. But I know he is now strutting in the sunshine along side my sweet lady, Yoda Mae, and looking down at me telling me not to be cry. I will remember all the fun times we have had and try not to grieve but it will take a long time not to shed tears for my "boy-dog" Pochie. A big thank you to Nadine for giving me the chance to adopt this fabulous pug." kathy bok

Deborah Rodkey has made a donation to PROS in memory of Pochie. Thank you Deborah.

Little Bit crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on August 4, 2007. Little Bit had been a hospice pug with PROS since June 2004. A big thank-you to her sponsors Angela Martin of San Ramon, Melody Gough and Paula Pug. Thank you Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin for your donations. Little Bit is missed by her foster family, her Sponsors, her donors and all of PROS.

Scooter, our beloved hospice Pug since 10/03,crossed over the RainBow Bridge on August 6, 2007, and is now waiting for all of us at the Rainbow Bridge. He was 15, deaf, blind, and had degenerative disc disease. I tried to make him as comfortable and happy as possible the almost 4 years he has been with me. I know he's now in a much better place. A special thank-you to Scooter's Sponsors: Michelle and Jeremy Trudelle, Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin, Candice Menzies-Yesk, and Delmar Orrell and Miss Sally Bobbin for your donation.

Scooter is missed by his foster mom (Sandy Champion), his Sponsors, his donors and everyons who met him in PROS.

On July 12, 2007, Addie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. She was the beloved companion of Nadine McAfee-Moore. Nadine and Addie were active volunteers of PROS. Addie helped Nadine serve as the Coordinator of "Pug Rescue by the Bay" and "PROS". Addie touched many lives and gave meaning to Pug Rescue. She is missed by her family and her friends at PROS.

Today, July 4, 2007, at 6:30pm my sweet Miss Kitty, aka Ch. Glory's Cat Dancing, passed away in my arms after a brief but furious idiopathic rare acute auto-immune attack that destroyed her platelets. This after ten years of unflagging health. My vets were wonderful, especially Dr. Peter Nurre, and they did everything they could to help my Kitty. Kitty was my first girl pug and my foundation bitch. I owe my life in pugs to her and everything good I have in pugs is because of her. Kitty could not help but be loved by everyone she knew. She met a little boy in the neighborhood who used to sleep with a picture of her under his pillow. Eventually his parents, who wouldn't let him have a dog, started asking if Miss Kitty could come over for special weekend sleepovers. Kitty loved her little boy friend. Everyone who knew her will agree she was sweet and demure. A patient but strict mom, grandmom and greatgrandmom -- she could set puppy limits without raising a paw, whether the babies were hers or not. She loved them all and treated them as her family. Kitty never asked for anything from us her entire life yet inspired more love from us than I can explain and appreciated every pet and cuddle as if it was every time a brand new exciting experience. She taught us how to "grumble" and taught us pug sign language when she couldn't hear too well anymore. It is comforting that her spirit is all around us with my pug family that is her family. Thankfully she is resting peacefully now, I would like to think with her son Pablo. If I could say one more thing to her it would be - I'll always love you my little pillow-mate Your loving family ~ Lisa, Joe, Otto, Jeannie, Nina, Maya, Toby, Filly, and Laila; your real kitty family, Nala, Terra and Kiki and your extended pug and people family and friends

Lisa Sheeran has made a donation to PROS in memory of Miss Kitty. Thank you Lisa.

Tulip, your foster family loved you so very much for the time you spent with us". Be in comfort now and forever.

Love, Linda
July 4th 2007

Remember Our Love I was chosen today I'm learning to fly the world took me away, but please don't you cry
And I chose you today to try and be strong so please don't you cry and don't say that I'm gone
When you're feeling alone just remember our love, I'm up near the stars looking down from above.
Remember our love In a moment you'll see that I'm still here beside you when you're thinking of me.

Penny crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on June 21, 2007. Penny was a hospice pug/chihuahua mix who was found wandering around Menlo Park on New Year's Day 2007. She had Mast Cell Cancer. She was a tiny little girl who loved her foster mama, her puggy roomates, soft beds, giving kisses, kids, babies, carrot snacks and laying in the sun on the patio. She is missed by her foster family (4 year old Evie especially) and all of PROS.

CoCo crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on June 15, 2007. She is missed by her foster family and all of PROS.

Lana Nadine was adopted from PROS in 2000.

Pretty Miss Penny crossed over the rainbow bridge on April 16Th, 2007 in my arms. She came to me 3 1/2 years ago when I discovered that San Lfa had a PUG RESCUE. Penny was the perfect little lady, never to potty on the sidewalk or in the park. She was very shy and had her crate as a security blanket. She also liked to have a down blanket to mouth on, never tearing a hole. She loved squeaky toys, playing tug of war with Mom or Dad, but never played with other dogs and hated to be around people she didn't know. Lucky Little Penny wasn't so lucky when she was misdiagnosed with severe ringworm and given a VERY TOXIC drug that caused liver failure. The Animal Hospital continued to make mistakes for 5 weeks. She originally went to the Doctor for a little bald spot on her neck and a small inflamed and bleeding growth on her paw ( it was not malignant ). Miss Penny's final 6 days were spent mostly in the hospital on IV's and oxygen while we were waiting for the biopsy test results that were NEVER sent to the pathologist. The VET says the courier lost them. She suffered way to much and I only wish I had been able to be with her when she really needed me and I needed her. I love you so very much Penny and Dad, Toby and Tigger miss you too.

Catie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on May 13, 2007. She is missed by her foster family and all of PROS.

Mingo 1990-2007 My dear sweet Mingo left this world of love on May 11, 2007 at 6:15pm. He left with him in my arms. He knew that I loved him dearly. But he didn’t leave easily. His body was weary with cancer and seizures but his spirit and heart very much wanted to stay. Mingo in Choctaw means King or Chief and he very much lived up to his name. He was very regal and royal and had such dignity. He never had a mean bone in his body. He came to us on Nov. 17, 1999. He was our first foster through Pug Rescue of Sacramento and he immediately became attached to me and I knew he wasn’t going to be leaving us. We adopted him that following January and he became a very important member of this family. He lived a life all dogs and pets should live. He never went without. Up until this past few weeks he had been quite healthy, too. I thank Roxane Fritz for entrusting us with him and I truly believe that his human mom had a divine hand in getting him to us. His is quite the story on how he got to us. I miss him so much already. I pray that he isn’t alone. He hates to be alone. I will miss his tongue that hangs out all the time, his prancing when he ran to meet me when I came home from work, how he loved to lick my feet in the mornings, the way he “allowed” me to put him to bed, and all the little things that were just Mingo’s way. I love you sweet boy. Thank you for coming my way. You will always be in my heart. Mama and Daddy love you dearly. Donn and Nicole Coenen

Toby has crossed over the rainbow bridge. It was so hard and the house is so quiet and empty. He was such an amazing dog and had such a will to live. Who knew when I adopted him at estimated age 10-12 he would last close to 5 years. That was more than enough time to have him completely take over my heart and hold it hostage.

Happi passed away on April 28, 2007. I love you old man, you are still "The Boss" man and always will be.

Buddy passed over the rainbow bridge in April, 2007.

Anne and Jack Fallin adopted Buddy from PROS in November of 2003. Anne said he was about 16 yrs old. He was rescued by the son of a couple who left him outdoors in Utah and part of his tail was frostbitten. Anne and Jack loved that boy and he was getting physical therapy for his back but he finally reached the point where he couldn't walk at all. Bless their hearts. Buddy is missed by his family and all of PROS

PROS expresses a special Thank You to Anne amd Jack Fallin for the donation made in Buddy's memory.

Tiger crossed over the rainbow bridge on March 28, 2007. He shared love with his family and will be missed by them and all of PROS.

Pino crossed over the rainbow bridge, He is missed by his family, foster family and all of PROS.

In March of 2001, I adopted Zoe. The love of my life. She was the sweetest, most loving, unconditional darling. I have lost her today. She passed over into heaven this evening after a shocking, frightening struggle that came out of nowhere. She was a happy, active girl this morning....by 5pm she has started a rapid decline. She died in my lap on the way to the emergency vet. We were with her when she past. I held her one last time....kissing and hugging and telling her I wanted her to greet me when i passed on. R.I.P Zoe dear - my sweet, sweet, perfect angel.....I will miss you so terribly and you have left a hole in my heart... Thank you, P.R.O.S for giving me such a glorious daughter for an all too brief period. I am forever indebted.

Emmy crossed over the rainbow bridge on 03/07/07.

They will not go quietly, The pets who've shared our lives. In subtle ways, they let us know Their spirits still survives. Old habits still can make us Think we hear them at the door, or step back when we drop A tasty morsel on the floor. Our feet still go around the place The food dish used to be And, sometimes, coming home at night, We miss them terribly. And, although time may bring new friends And a new food dish to fill, That one place in our hearts Belongs to them... And always will.

PROS expresses a special Thank You to Bruce and Sharon Tracey for the donation made in Emmy's memory.

Charlie crossed over the rainbow bridge on 12/1/06. He is missed and was loved by his foster family and all of PROS.

Jacques crossed over the rainbow bridge 11/06. He is missed by his family and foster family and all of PROS.

Toki crossed over the rainbow bridge on 10/23/06 from a massive infection believed to have been caused by bad teeth

Lady Victoria Anastasia passed away on 8/24/06. She was approaching her 14th birthday. Our family had the great honor of adopting Annie from pros when she was 8 years young. Although we still have three dogs with us, there is a huge void in our lives. Thank you to PROS for all that you do. Annie we miss you and love you.

Jill and Ken Strunk

Sweet Duffy was a 13 to 14 year old black neutered male Pug. He had a collapsing trachea and chronic bronchitis, a damaged vertebrae in his back and was on pain medication. Duffy had been a hospice pug with PROS since September 2003. Duffy crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Sept. 28, 2006. He is very missed by his foster family.

Farewell Duffy, Mom loves you. Duffy was about 14 years old when he left me. Broken, tired and old I'd give anything I have to get him back again.
--Gena, Duffy's foster mom.

What do you do when a good friend dies?
What do you do when a good friend dies?
Do you lash out in anger and curse at the sky.
Or grasp hard denial, the means of the weak,
In an effort to kindle the comfort you seek.
What do you do when a good friend dies?
Once life's breath, so precious, gives the chest final rise.
In haste you take blame, no other at fault,
You kneel upturned earth and deem all happiness to halt.
What do you do when a good friend dies?
When with him the times, both good and bad, lie.
Do you cast aside the past, for memories hurt much too much,
Or struggle and fight for that last lingering touch.
What do you do when a good friend dies?
When all of the tears have all but been cried.
No matter how much, no matter how hard you try,
The only thing to do is say farewell.
Goodbye.

Mae wass a 13yr old female pug who was a real love but who had mast cell tumors. Mae crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Sept. 28, 2006.

Sara is a very sweet little pug and came in with Roy. They were found abandoned in a condemned home by animal control and the shelter called us right away. Sara is an elderly blind, confused little fawn female and Roy is a middle aged Pug mix with a huge tumor on his rear hind leg which is affecting his movement, he also has a bad gum infection from no dental care. Roy is very devoted to Sara and looks after her. Both pugs were flea infested especially Roy - it took over 4 flea baths to get the fleas off of him. They are in a very special foster home and are receiving all the care and love they need.

Sara crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on September 11, 2006.

Roxy is a sweet loving fawn Senior Pug that was found as a cold, shivering stray by some wonderful good samaritans. They notified us and PROS rescued her from the shelter. Roxie is 10 to 12 years old, spayed and very active for her age. She's so happy she has trouble containing herself. She gets along with everyone, human and animal (Roxy is cat friendly) and would love a warm, human lap to curl up in at night. There is nothing better than to get a older pugs love and Roxy is more than ready.

Roxy crossed over the rainbow bridge September 1, 2006.

Ruby is a older female pug who was found wandering in a parking lot of a post office. She has some rear end weakness but can go up a couple of steps and is learning to use a doggie door with a ramp.

Ruby crossed over the rainbow bridge on June 8, 2006.

Rosie came to us from a puppymill and heartworm positive. Once healed PROS found her a perfect home but sometimes good things don't last. Rosie is back with us and has kidney failure. She doesn't have long to live and to say that for a 3 year old Pug is heart breaking. There's no explanation for why it happened but when there's no cure, the why is no longer important. What is important is to keep her remaining time happy and as comfortable as we can.

Rosie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on April 24, 2006. Rosie we all miss you!

Mr. Blue is around 13 years old and has had a hard life. His foster family is providing him with a comfortable and loving retirement home, and he gives them wonderful pug purrs for tummy rubs. He's pretty stiff with arthritis but he loves laying in the sun during the day or snoozing the day away in the house. Blue has been a hospice pug with PROS since May 2003

Mr. Blue crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on April 24, 2006. Mr. Blue, your foster family and all of PROS will miss you.

Maggie is a 10 year old fawn pug that came to PROS with many medical problems. PROS gladly took Maggie in and although we've tried hard to repair past damage there are some things we can't fix. Maggie has neurological damage from past injuries to her back and it has become harder for her to walk, chiropractic treatments just couldn't help. Plus, Maggie is now battling recurrent bladder infections. She's happy and still loves to be with her foster family.

Maggie went to the Rainbow Bridge on April 4, 2006

15 year old Sophie passed over on the evening of March 31 2006. She was happy all day, had a great week. She passed after having her evening treat... the thing she loved best. We will miss her terribly.

It is with such deep mourning that I let you know of the passing of Sammy our dear pug. He came to us on Dec. 23, 1999 and passed away on Mar. 30, 2006. We loved him so very much and we miss him already. I am thankful that he passed this way and we had the opportunity to show him what love was. Many had a hand in his rescue and I thank each one of those wonderful people that through them he found his way to us.

- -Nicole Coenen

Sammy was a PROS rescue

Berry went to the Rainbow Bridge on March 23, 2006. Some people would say just to let him stay in the shelter but PROS just could not do that. We saw Berry, an old and sweet grey old man who needed a better place to live and we just would not let him die in a shelter. Berry was 12-14 years old, maybe older. Blind, deaf and a mouth full of rotting teeth we took him anyway knowing we could make his last days better. We'd like to think we made a huge difference for him and he passed away knowing he was home and safe. Berry, we did not know you for long but we love you.

Scotty crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on December 19, 2005. His foster family and all of PROS misses him deeply.

Tribute to Scotty:
Two weeks ago a wonderful spirit named Scotty came into our lives and house. We knew that he had health problems, a severe collapsing trachea, but we thought that we would have a good length of time with him. He really seemed to fit in with our other pugs and greatly enjoyed our house and backyard. Unfortunately, Scotty passed away last night. We went quietly and did not appear to suffer. We are honored that we could share our lives with him even if just for 2 short weeks. He touched us and our other pugs deeply and we will miss his darling little spirit.
Rest in peace Scotty.

Nicky went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 21, 2005. His foster mom and all of PROS misses him deeply.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

Chubby has gone over the Rainbow Bridge on July 31, 2005. He is missed and was loved by his foster family and all of PROS.

I miss the wagging little tail
I miss the plaintive, pleading wail
I miss the wistful, loving glance
I miss the circling welcome-dance

--Henry Willett, "In Memoriam"
